TomTom for iPhone For Only $99!
Don't waste your time with subscription navigation.
By Kyle on August 17, 2009 at 12:19 pm

TomTom has finally announced the pricing of their navigation iPhone app. It is actually quite a deal. The $99 cost will pay for itself in less than a year as compared to the $10 a month subscriptions like AT&T Navigator.
Also to go side by side with their app release, TomTom is selling an iPhone Car Kit. This will certainly cost a pretty penny but looks to be well worth it if you have spare cash. The iPhone can be mounted on the dashboard or windows for easier viewing of the navigation. Also at the same time it will charge the phone, which is essential since this app will most definitely drain your battery. If you aren’t using TomTom then the car kit still works great for hands free calling.
The way it figures out what is the quickest route is a little different than the standard way. TomTom uses IQ routes to figure out the fastest routes based on how fast other TomTom users traveled through areas. This will decrease the time it takes to travel 35 percent of the time according to TomTom.
There will be support for the iPod Touch in the future. First though it will only be available on iPhone 3G and 3G S users.

Magic To Get Sense UI Upgrade
Free upgrade this October
By Kyle on August 16, 2009 at 8:34 pm

It looks like the HTC Magic (T-Mobile myTouch 3G) will be getting a free UI uprade to the Hero’s Sense UI. It will run just as well on the Magic as it did on the Hero since it has the same internals. If this is all true and T-Mobile goes along with the upgrade, then this could be the first phone with Sense UI in the United States. It is not clear though whether this upgrade will be free or around $46. Stay tuned for further updates.

What Puts The HD In Zune HD?
It's probably not what you think
By Kyle on August 14, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Sometimes companies just throw HD on the end of names to make it appear better than it is. This Zune’s name might be slightly misleading. The name seems to imply that the screen displays HD quality images and video but this is not true. The screen resolution on the Zune HD is only 480×272 pixels (iPod Touch is 480×320). Zune HD’s Onscreen Keyboard And Web Browser
Both make or break handheld devices
By Kyle on August 14, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Who would have guessed that Microsoft could make a good web browser? Well apparently they did according to people who got their hands on it early like CNET. It is said to be as good as Apple’s Mobile Safari. This is quite a compliment because Mobile Safari is one of the best mobile web browsers out there. One thing possibly worth mentioning is the default search provider is Bing. No word on if its possible to change it, but truly it will be nearly identical results to the other major search engines. The current top selling application is Camera Genius. It is right above Camera Zoom and will put it out of business instantly since it does so much more than simply zoom. Camera Genius packs zoom, anti-shake, timer, and along with other things a very innovative feature called sound capture. Continue Reading
HTC Touch Pro2 Coming To T-Mobile As Well
Will be available August 12th
By Kyle on August 11, 2009 at 3:02 pm

T-Mobile recently announced that they will be releasing the HTC Touch Pro2 August 12th. It looks like all of the carriers are getting in on the game including Verizon. T-Mobile’s version does not have a 3.5mm jack but instead a micro usb converter for audio. Noah at Phone Dog just unboxed T-Mobile’s HTC Touch Pro2, so go check out his video.
Update: The T-Mobile version is limited to a 3 person conference call. Also for some reason the default browser is no longer Opera Mobile but rather Pocket IE.

HTC Touch Pro2 To Launch On Sprint And AT&T In US?
Finally its coming to the US
By Kyle on August 10, 2009 at 3:08 pm

In the past day we have seen pictures of both a Sprint and an AT&T HTC Touch Pro2 (Tilt 2 on AT&T). This phone has debatably the best keyboard on a mobile phone. It runs Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional and has a resistive touch screen. As a replacement to zooming with multitouch like you would see on capacitive screens, HTC has added a zoom line below the screen where you can run your finger across to zoom in and out.
