The upcoming Samsung I800 Omnia II made it’s debut for the first time, thanks to a leak on a Lithuanian webpage. The new Omnia will feature a nice sized AMOLED touchscreen, an 8.1 Megapixel Camera and will sport Windows Mobile. More after the read link.
Samsung’s new mobile phone will have the model name I8000, with Omnia II probably being much more often. It will have a 3.7-inch WVGA TFT resistive (boo) touchscreen, 8.1 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and VGA@30fps video recording, 150 MB internal memory, a Qualcomm processor and a microSD card slot. The connectivity includes the usual: 3G support, Bluetooth, miniUSB, GPS and Wi-Fi.
It’s possible that the Windows Mobile on the device (likely 6.1) will be heavily customized and will carry the Samsung’s TouchWiz styling with deep menu restyling. So far this is all mostly rumor, and the leak could possibly be untrue specs, but hopefully the real announcement will show soon, as the Samsung Unpacked worldwide unveiling event is closing in mid June.
The design looks nice, and the specs sound great, besides the resistive touch (not my preference). The cube button is interesting, and I wonder how well that will work. I would absolutely love this phone if it was released along with WinMo 6.5 and had a capacitive touchscreen, but we will have to wait for the official announcement. From the videos on the source’s page, it looks rather laggy and slow, and the user is having a tough time with the touch interface.
